This past week, our assignment was to create a movie poster that introduces us. I choose Enchanted because of the main character, Giselle. Not only does she have red hair, but she loves to sing, and has a pleasing disposition, which I like to think I have too…wink wink. At first, I was dreading this assignment because it requires a self portrait. I’ve always been way more comfortable behind the camera, because of my insecurities. For days this assignment was looming over my head like a dark cloud… but as the due date got closer, I decided I better just do it. As I began planning how I wanted to do it, I thought that doing my hair for the photo would be the least of my worries, NOT TRUE! Doing my hair to look like hers was by far the most difficult part! It seems to happen like that a lot, the part you think will be the easiest, ends up being the most difficult. As I continued getting ready, I tried to think of a way to get puffed sleeves like on her dress… so I used garbage bags!!! They actually looked like actual puffed sleeves.
The poster is made up of 3 images. The background image is of the New York skyline, which I took over the 7-week break while my husband and I were there to visit. The second picture is of my husband, Kelly, he is such a good sport when I ask him to model for me. I cut him out of the background and made it transparent so that you could still see the skyline behind him. The third picture is of me. The only editing I did was I brightened it a little bit, then used a filter called ‘accented edges’ to make it look more cartooned. I also had to grab the crown offline and cut it out, then put it on my original image. Then I applied a layer mask so that the edges of the photo weren’t so harsh. Then I added the movie title, and the paragraph at the bottom. This ended up being an enjoyable project for me, even with the self portrait.
