Outdoor Light Painting

October 11, 2013

This passed weekend I was blessed enough to attend my first excursion with my Comm 316 class.  We are so lucky to have such a wonderful group!  Before this weekend, I didn’t have enough of a technical understanding about my camera to take amazing light paintings.  Luckily for me, I’m also a part of the photographics society on campus, they hold meetings every week with tutorials.  Katie Anderson was one of the teachers this passed week, and she explained ISO in a way that I was able to understand and grasp! THANK YOU KATIE!  This newfound understanding helped me SO much when creating my light paintings.

This first set of light paintings is all outdoors.  The cabin we were staying in had a creek running right next to it, which made for some seriously amazing photographs.  I tend to like doing light paintings by myself better than when I’m with a group.  In a group it’s really hard because each of us is at a different vantage point that makes it hard to light paint properly.  For several of these, I went off by myself with a tiny flashlight, and just let the creative juices flow, and I’m SO glad I did.  My love for photography has grown so much, and I feel so blessed to be in a class with a professor, TA’s and peers who are so willing to teach each other!
